Wave & Current flume

GENIMAR, the ACRI group's hydrodynamics laboratory, uses a 30 metes long wave & current flume. This flume is a main tool for ACRIIN. Physical models tests allow ACRI-IN to validate by the experience a large variety of new coastal and marine structures or any modification of an existing structure.

The wavemaker (entirely concepted by ACRI) is a double flap wavemaker. Regular and random waves can be generated. It is possible to create wave of 1 meter height. The extremities of the flume are linked in order to generate current in the flume (1 cubic meter per second). .

Other details of the wave flume are available here.

Studies frequently made with the wave  flume :

  • Bidimensionnal studies (and even smale  scale tridimensionnal) of breakwater  stability and overtopping.
  • Wave effort measurements on marine  structures.
  • Artificial beaches stability studies.

  • When a tridimensionnal wave tank study is necessary, we have tight relations with the Marine Studies Laboratiry (LEM) based in Algeers.
