DEVINE -  Seismic Risk

Seismic Hazard in the French-Italian Alpine Regions

Where will the next major earthquake be?

How big will it be?

When will it occur?

Seismic hazard is a description of the probability that an earthquake of a given size will take place in a given time.

Vulnerability

Who will be affected by the next major earthquake?

Vulnerability is the description of the population, property, structures, resources, and territory exposed to the effects of a hazard such as seismic hazard.

Seismic Risk

What damage will result from the next major earthquake?

Seismic risk is a description of the risk linked to the possibility that an earthquake occurs, and the foreseen consequences of such an event. This may involve a description of the risk to the population (displacement, injuries or deaths) as well as risk to structures (estimates of the capacity of buildings to withstand shaking).

Seismic Risk Prevention

What can you do to help prevent any catastrophe linked to earthquakes?

Activities that are undertaken to eliminate or reduce the risk and the possible effects associated with an earthquake.
