D26     Installation of all CGPS stations and delivery of raw data 24 hours after acquisition

1) Installation of new CGPS stations

1a) North Iceland:

IMO, in cooperation with Laboratoire de Géodynamique des Chaines Alpines (LGCA), University of Savoie, has installed two new CGPS stations in Northern Iceland. Station RHOF in the town of Raufarhofn was installed in July 2001; the station is on the Eurasian plate. IMO and LGCA also installed a new site on the Tjörnes peninsula (ARHO) in June 2002.

1b) South Iceland:

IMO installed a new station (called SELF) south of Selfoss in the eastern part of the SISZ. The monument and benchmark were installed in May 2001, although the station did not operate permanently until February 2002. In the meantime, the station was occupied occasionally during GPS campaigns.

In May 2001 a monument and benchmark was installed in the town of Hvolsvöllur in the western part of the SISZ. The station is not yet operating continuously, but has been included in several GPS campaigns.

Also in May 2001, a monument was installed over an existing benchmark near the Búrfell power plant, approximately 15 km NW of Mt. Hekla. The benchmark had been included in numerous GPS campaigns since 1986. Since January 2002, the station has operated continuously. All stations in South Iceland were installed in cooperation with NVI.

2) Methods for frequent analysis

Data from all ISGPS stations are automatically collected and processed on a daily basis. Initial tests for more frequent analysis have started and indicate that the present processing strategy for the daily data is not optimal for more frequent analysis. Future work will concentrate on finding the optimal processing strategy using data from the network.
